An Introvert’s Warmth

My friend is a kind introvert
his warmth grows inside
a damp, solitary room
like pink, red and white coral bells
springing up to life
with little sun.

His anonymous stories
are shelved in sorrowful books
secretly stashed
inside invisible vaults.

No one could see him getting goosebumps
no one could get under his skin
but if he were to hold your hand by chance
you would learn to grow
cactuses in permafrost.
