Come, Sit With Us

Come and sit with me
in this balcony still wet from yesterday’s rain
there is enough room to exchange notes of grief
for the four of us can squeeze inside any little space
and think about the Milky Way and the kindness of dogs.
Let the sun walk over our bare faces and settle against the bones
We have spent years in the arms of shadows
Carrying secret guns of sad truths
And lightbulbs that glow like the vacant stare of an unloved child.

Come, let us huddle up together
before the sun goes away and the balcony gets damp again
we need to suck out the graveyards blooming in our hearts
there are enough words to sprinkle like sea salt upon our open wounds.
We have given up our childhoods for the laughter of cows and bees
now we must learn to increase like the silent grasses of summer meadows
with irises in our hearts.
